How playing an instrument benefits your brain?

How does playing an instrument affects your brain

Here is an interesting video I found on the internet about how the music affects our brain and how playing an instrument benefits your brain:

When you listen to music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain workout. What’s going on? Anita Collins explains the fireworks that go off in musician’s brains when they play, and examines some of the long-term positive effects of this mental workout.

Lesson by Anita Collins, animation by Sharon Colman Graham.

If this “discovery” is a fact, I might start playing some instruments. It’s never 2 late :D, and I am still young so.. that would be nice.

And for those of you who like music ‘n stuff you really must watch this movie: August Rush. Also the review is coming soon, I think..

The video was created by TED-Ed, an educational channel with pretty interesting facts. Great guys these TED “teachers”. I have watched a lot of them episodes and, to be honest they really seem to know what are doing. Here is the channel, go surf (if you want), it’s just a recommendation.

What do you think about the video? Is this true? Is it 100% real? We might never know….., but then again we might know some day.
